“Come to Me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Rest, Peace. What are they? From where do they come? To many people peace is just the absence of conflict, but as my mother lay in the hospital losing her short battle with cancer, she had peace, that peace that passes human comprehension. In the midst of a life or death battle she had peace.
Jesus said to come to him to receive rest and peace. I want that. But how? I think that first I need to trust. Trust that the God who created the universe cares about my insignificant struggles. Then I need to have faith. I need to have faith that He knows, cares and can handle my problems without help from me (and better than I could anyway). And last I need to lean. I need to lean on His everlasting, loving arms and let Him hold me and support me through the difficult times in my life. That’s where true peace lies.
So today I’m thankful for rest and peace and that I can experience them through Christ.
